190 Can’t You Have a Little Faith in Me? 2
The doors opened on the fifteenth floor, where they walked into the empty hallway towards Lu Tianxin's apartment. Lu Tianxin unlocked the door and stepped aside, allowing Ye Xiaozu to enter first with Luo Luo before shortly following him inside.
After Ye Xiaozu placed the sleeping boy on his bed, Lu Tianxin proceeded to swiftly remove Luo Luo's shoes before tucking him in bed. Ye Xiaozu then looked around her place and saw several photo frames of the pair of mother and son.
Pictures of the newborn of Luo Luo could be seen in the sitting area up to the moment he was able to crawl and stand on his own. Ye Xiaozu then realized that he had missed so much of his nephew's life over the years. He also didn't fail to notice Lu Tianyi's bright smile as she held the young Luo Luo in her arms.
Seeing that, he was suddenly reminded of his beloved's other secret.
Lu Tianxin wouldn't be able to bear a child, no matter how much she prayed for it to happen.
Indeed, small miracles do happen everyday, but for a woman like Lu Tianxin, who could love with all her heart, Ye Xiaozu felt like fate wasn't being fair towards his beloved. He couldn't imagine her without a child of her own.
Was this one of the reasons why she broke up with him, aside from opting to look after his ill sister?
Ye Xiaozu wondered what he would have done if he was in her shoes years ago. He would have probably made the same choice she did. What would he do if he was the one who couldn't give her a child? The thought bothered him very much.
In his thirty-one years of living, he'd only once dared to dream of a family of his own, and that was when he still had her in his life. The moment she'd turned her back on him, all those dreams had been forgotten.
He sat on the couch and watched as she poured him a drink and settled on the armchair next to him, his eyes watching her every movement with interest.
"Tianxin, you have to believe me. I'm not the one who told Aunt Xixi about Luo Luo."
"I know." Lu Tianxin sighed and ran her fingers through her thick mane. "I know you wouldn't put Luo Luo in such a dangerous position. You loved Sister Yimei and I have no doubt that you would protect Luo Luo with everything you have, just like you used to for your sister."
"But…why didn't you tell me about her illness? I could have…" Ye Xiaozu's words trailed off as he thought about it. What could he even do to help Yimei and Tianxin back then?
"Don't blame yourself, Xiaozu. It's because your sister didn't want you or Luo Luo to be hurt by your father. You have no idea how hard it was for Sister Yimei. Although she knew her time was limited because of her illness, she still chose to keep her pregnancy and give birth to Luo Luo."
"What about your infertility? Why didn't you tell me about it?" Ye Xiaozu confronted her and Lu Tianxin felt her eyes sting with tears again.
"I'm really sorry, Xiaozu. I wasn't sure what to do at the time." She tried to blink her tears away, but obviously failed as it rolled down her cheeks. "I wasn't sure how to tell you. What would you feel if you knew we can never have a child of our own? I don't want to tie you down to suffer with me."
Lu Tianxin smiled bitterly and glanced at her adopted son's door.
"Sister Yimei knew about it. It must be the reason why she let me keep Luo Luo and raise him as my own. She knew how much I wanted to become a mother, and she made my dream come true."
She lifted her head and smiled at him.
"I hope you will find a woman who can give the world to you." She told him.
Ye Xiaozu frowned, his lip thinning into a line.
"I don't want the world, Tianxin. I only want to be with you, even if that means we could only have each other until the day I die." He confessed. Lu Tianxin snapped her head in his direction, too surprised that she didn't notice she had held her breath.
It would have sounded like a powerful romantic confession, but she knew better than to delude herself to think that it was alright.
As if sensing her thoughts, Ye Xiaozu continued.
"Tianxin, if you allow me… please allow me to take care of you and Luo Luo. Let's raise him together, as our own."
He considered Lady Song's suggestion earlier and thought that it wasn't a bad idea at all. By marrying Lu Tianxin, he would be able to protect not only her, but Luo Luo as well. Not to mention that if they were married, Lu Tianxin would never need to worry about being forcefully separated from the little boy.
His relatives wouldn't have any reason to take Luo Luo away from Lu Tianxin and they wouldn't be able to question nor pressure him for an heir in the future.
"Lu Tianxin, I still love you. Would you please consider accepting me as your husband?" He felt nervous and was ready to freak out.
Waiting for Lu Tianxin's reply felt like forever as she was stunned into silence for a moment before she threw her arms around him in the blink of an eye.
"En. I'm really sorry for all the things I've done and hid. I never meant to hurt you." She cried out and her whole body shook as he held her.
