Chapter 408 - Meanwhile, Sasuke...
Chapter 408 - Meanwhile, Sasuke…
Meanwhile, a few minutes earlier, Sasuke was rushing through Konoha at high speed. He was supposed to help Konoha during the invasion and then reveal the two elder's bodies draped in Akatsuki cloaks in front of a huge crowd, but…
'Where the hell is everyone!?'
Well, Yuna probably should have mentioned that she would make sure that most people were already evacuated before the fight even started, which meant that it wouldn't be easy to find a huge crowd. Additionally…
'It's okay if there are no civilians, but where are all the shinobi!? Isn't this supposed to be an invasion!? Where is everyone!?"
Yet again, Yuna might have forgotten to mention that she would make sure that there would be no small fries on the streets during the invasion, reducing the number of people Sasuke could enact his play in front of even further.
When he first entered Konoha, he saw a battle between a bunch of massive creatures with dangerously-looking flames burning a few of them to a crisp, so he headed there immediately. However, before reaching his destination, all the summoned creatures popped out of existence, indicating the end of the battle, so Sasuke immediately headed somewhere else.
He noticed a bunch of powerful explosions just outside of Konoha, so he decided to go there next, but when he saw a mixture of water and wind projectile shredding apart massive patches of the forest, he concluded that his help was definitely needed somewhere else, and turned his back to the fight.
Although he left before he could see it, a mountain-like water dome getting shredded to pieces by an enormous ball of spinning wind chakra would have assured him that he had made the right decision.
While he was frantically searching, his eyes lit up when he heard a few people making some noise not too far away from him and immediately headed for the source of the noise.
When he arrived at his destination, he almost face-planted into the ground due to what he saw…
"There he is! Surround him!"
"Come on, get him!"
"Get him; we can't have that group of madwomen get all the glory!"
"HEY! WHO ARE YOU CALLING A MADWOMAN!?"
"Damnit, Anko is already here, don't let her get this one as well!"
"Sh*t, I should have stayed hidden! Oh hey, hello Ino, who is transformed into someone else over there."
"What the hell, Anko!? Let me have this one; the first one was a disappointment!"
"Damnit, another madwoman is already here. Hurry up!"
"Did you just call my daughter a madwoman!?"
"*Guh*, I-I'm sorry, Inoichi-sama!!!"
Sasuke witnessed utter chaos.
A mob of frantic shinobi was currently chasing after a single man with orange hair and seven piercings arranged from the place between his eyes down his cheeks and another three in each ear.
This was Naraka Path Pain, who didn't have a good time at all, right now. Considering how hopeless his current situation was, Nagato considered multiple times whether he should just discard him, but his ability to revive the other Pain bodies was simply too valuable just to discard. He only needed to get a hold of one body, preferably the Animal or Asura one, and he could make a comeback.
Sasuke looked at the madness happening in front of him, and after contemplating whether he should really jump in there or not, he came to a decision.
From what he could see, none of the people chasing after the enemy were speed-type shinobi, granting Sasuke a massive advantage. This, combined with the power of his evolved Sharingan and the fact that Naraka Path Pain was somewhat distracted almost guaranteed him the kill.
So, Sasuke decided to go for the kill as rampant lightning chakra started covering his right hand while the sound of birds chirping reverberated over the surroundings. His usually black eyes turned red as he activated his Sharingan, quickly followed by his Mangekyou Sharingan to ensure that he would miss nothing.
He ran towards his opponent in a straight line and, to his surprise, a split-second before he could reach Nakara Path Pain, he started falling over like a puppet whose strings had been cut, allowing Sasuke to easily smash his Chidori through the body of Nakara Path Pain, dumbfounding everyone who was following him.
"W-What the hell!?"
"Why did he suddenly give up like that!?"
"He just bent over and allowed himself to be penetrated, huh?"
"Anko, you are definitely spending too much time with Yuna."
"Haha, sorry, Ino, that one slipped out by instinct."
"The rambling of those two madwomen aside, who is that!?"
"That's right, who stole our kill!?"
"Huh? Isn't that Sasuke Uchiha!?"
"Why is he here!?"
"Damnit, I don't know how or why, but this is definitely Yuna's doing!!!"
Sasuke couldn't help but look at the last person who talked in bewilderment.
'What the hell!? Why is he so sure about that? I mean, he is correct, but that thought process is just absurd. What in the world happened in these recent three years within Konoha for everyone to act this weirdly?'
Although there were a lot of questions in Sasuke's mind, he decided that it was not the right moment to ask them. After all, there were many people present, so this was the perfect chance for him to pull out the bodies of the dead elders.
He was just about to take out the scroll containing their bodies when a powerful shockwave washed over the gathered crowd, causing a few of them to tumble to the ground and resulting in the rest of them looking at the source of the shockwave.
They saw a rippling crimson dome that was covered densely with complex-looking minuscule seals. Most of them immediately realized where this barrier was and understood that it was the Uzumaki clan compound's barrier. They also understood that it was very likely rippling because someone attacked it, which immediately evoked a sense of pity for the attacker in most of them.
Moments later, they saw a single figure getting blasted into the sky, causing Anko to shake her head.
"Guess the show is over; let's go home."
Naturally, most people weren't satisfied with that in the slightest. Why was the show over? There might still be more enemies, right? However, Ino's following words quickly doused their earlier enthusiasm with cold water.
"The Uzumaki clan got attacked directly; pretty sure Yuna will take that personally. If you want to get between her and her prey, then good luck, I'm leaving."
Ino's words send shivers through the spine of everyone present, causing them to leave quickly, so they wouldn't get into whatever mess Yuna was going to create, leaving a confused Sasuke behind.
'B-But, what about me? I-I still have the bodies of the elders! Wait, aren't I supposed to be a missing-nin? Why is everyone leaving just like that!? Why am I being ignored!? What the hell is going on!?'
