Chapter 215: The Master of Death
The improvised "séance", lasted for an entire hour, until his magic became too low to maintain the connection and she went back to where she came from.
Harry would have liked to give the family some privacy to talk, but he couldn't do that since he was the one keeping Miss Lovegood in the mortal realm.
It was a bit awkward to be in front of Xeno when he was basically 'holding' his wife.
But at least, both Xeno and Luna appeared to be extremely happy afterward.
He had never seen Luna smile like that, so he was fine with exhausting all his magic for that.
"Harry, thank you for -" Xeno stopped talking when he heard the Stone of Resurrection making noises again.
But this time, it sounded more like cracking.
"What is happening now?" Asked Harry.
Luna became excited. "Is someone else going to visit us?... maybe Grandma?... hopefully not Grandpa, he was always cranky."
"I don't think it's that…" Said Harry. His magic was already exhausted, so it was impossible to bring someone else right now.
Much to his surprise… moments later, the Stone of Resurrection let out a series of loud cracks and crumbled down into small pieces while still on Harry's palm.
He moved his hand, and the pieces fell down, turning into dust before touching the table.
"How can that be?" Harry asked. That was a magical artifact created by Death itself. How could it disintegrate like that?
"It had lost its power completely… I believe its purpose had been served." Said Xeno with an unusually serious tone.
"But it was working just a moment ago." Luna pointed out. "Did Harry break it?"
"No, I don't think it was the stone that brought your Mom here. It was Harry himself." Xeno revealed.
"I have many abilities, but bringing back the dead for a chat… is not one of them, I can assure you of that. Harry told him with conviction.
Xeno picked up the Elder Wand and brought it closer to him. "Try holding this."
Harry picked up the wand and felt a strong connection with it, even stronger than before. And he wasn't even trying to adjust to the wand...it was like it was already made for him.
"Try casting a spell with it." Xeno suggested.
Harry glanced at the wand closely. Despite the connection, he did not feel any power in it. It was like the core was missing, so magic should be impossible to cast with it.
But he was also curious to see if it would work. He channeled a small amount of magic through the wand like he usually did and gave it a flick. "Wingardium Leviosa."
A cup that was standing on the counter started to float in the air.
"It works…" Harry found it hard to believe the wand was working in its current state.
Of course, he could have cast such a simple spell without the use of a wand, but that requires a different process. Had the wand not worked properly, the spell would have fizzled.
"It is as I thought." Said Xeno as he pointed at the wand.
The cup that Harry was making float in the air, fell down all of a sudden.
The wand let out a loud cracking noise, similar to the one made by the stone, and just a moment later, it crumbled in the same way, turning to dust.
"What does this mean? First, the hallows lose their power, and now they disappear." His eyes moved to the clock that was resting on the table.
"Go ahead. Take the cloak." Said Xeno.
"I don't want to break that one… it's a family relic." It was one of the first gifts he ever got. And the first one that came from his family.
"It will turn to dust even if you leave it be. But I think it's important that you do it yourself. They are already yours, but you must complete the connection with the hallows." Xeno urged him.
Harry felt the connection with the cloak even before touching it…
Then… with a quick motion, he pulled the cloak over himself like he had done so many times in the past.
He disappeared from sight while being able to still see the Lovegoods through the translucent fabric.
"It works!" Harry exclaimed. He never thought he could see this old cloak work again.
But, like with the stone and the wand...it did not last long.
"Ohh, I can see something again!" Luna said.
The magic of the cloak ended, turning back into a normal black cloak.
Before Harry could pull it off him, the fabric turned into dust and disappeared into the air.
Harry glanced at Xeno. "You seem to know what is going on. Care to explain?"
"Now I believe it is complete. Now… you have become the first Master of Death." Xeno said with a smile.
"Master of Death? That makes little sense to me."
'If anything, I should have been the Master of Death during my previous life. That's when I became the owner of all three hallows.' Harry considered.
But nothing happened then… he didn't notice any change in myself.
He was still the same Harry Potter I was before.
'Why are these changes happening now and not earlier? What changed?... something must have triggered this…'
But then, something did come to mind… something did happen.
'I died...but then...could it be?'
What if...in order to become the Master of Death, one had to die first, and only then, the changes will truly begin.
