Chapter 294: King Arthur (2)
Chapter 294: King Arthur (2)
The room was filled with gasps, the truth was unveiled and the identity of Katarina was revealed. It wasn't a wonder why Frederick was so confident in Aquarius, even letting him go on Campaigns with half the number of Adventurers required.
Aquarius was a man of knowledge and wisdom, it wasn't a question.
"You said she was betrothed to the leader of Giverechie Clan?" Aquarius turned to Elliot and quirked his brow up. "It's not because he needed to spread his bloodline, it's because he needed her bloodline. The clan has not appeared in any records until a hundred years ago. This wasn't an ancient clan."
"So, they aren't the descendants of Merlin?" Elliot asked. "The one who stole the Excalibur, this clan's name was a hoax all this time?"
"Indeed," Aquarius nodded. "This clan was just a show. I bet they were looking for his descendant for decades, trying to figure out which city Merlin's son lived in."
"But then," Elliot scrunched his face, trying to settle all these facts right. "What does this have to do with the hex?"
"Merlin did it," Minos replied this time. "This much, I know. I was told that he hexed the one who could harness the true power of Excalibur, making that person die when they touch Excalibur. He was jealous of them, so much that he's willing to kill more people for it."
Elliot nodded at this. "This seems too unconvincing for me. I feel like there's something hidden between the lines, but I quite can't pinpoint where."
"Hope, what does your dragon gut says?" Connor asked jokingly.
The gray-haired boy stared at them for a moment before gulping, "Y-You guys lost me at hexes compared to curses."
"Of course, we did," Ed deadpannded and they all turned away from him.
"You're there, but it's not quite right." They all snap their heads to the direction of the voice. It was Jameson and he was walking down from the stairs with a stuffed animal in his hand. "The child wasn't Merlin's. It was the child of King Arthur himself."
Aquarius narrowed his eyes at the statement, "I read the texts in both Alorde and Solaguer libraries, and even the old libraries if they have some. The things I told you was the right one."
Jameson shook his head. "I had a maid once, she was a Sear. In a cetain book where certain people can read certain texts, she read to me a story."
About six hundred years ago, there was a small kingdom named Camelot. This kingdom was small but it was prosperous with magic. Back in the time where magic circles were still being used and the Adventurer system ceased to provide people the purpose they have now, the people relied on magic circles and items.
But a famous rock and sword was what made Camelot more interesting. Its founder pierced the sword through the rock when he built the kingdom, claiming that the true king is the only one who could pull the sword out of the rock.
Many have tried, and all have failed. The sword was incredibly stuck on the rock, not even budging even with the use of high-grade destructive magic circles. This made the sword famous and the rock it was stuck to was placed in the middle of the town's square.
It was fate that played a trick on them. Along with the people who tried were the elites, the men born from nobilities and gentries, but a certain homeless boy placed his fingertips on the handle of the legendary sword, slowly pulling it away from the rock and ultimately changed his life forever.
This boy was named Arthur and the nobilities regarded him with the name of the kingdom's first king, King Ardent Pendragon, earning him the name King Arthur Pendragon.
Of course, this made the nobles split in half. The ones who supported him, and the ones who defied him.
"He was homeless."
"What if he tries to steal from the palace?"
"He can't rule a kingdom."
Were the lines of those who opposed King Arthur.
"We can guide him."
"He was the fated boy."
"Arthur is a good boy."
Were the lines of those who supported him.
Torn between the two, King Arthur decided to become king and rule the kingdom his own way. From what he learned from the hardships of the life in the streets, he garnered his knowledge and led the kingdom righteously.
That was until, someone unveiled the truth. King Arthur had a secret that made him able to use Excalibur and become a strong and malevolent king. His secret was known to be as his right hand, the Caster named Merlin.
Merlin stayed by Arthur's side all the time. They would even have a room beside each other of how close they were, the caster even being referred to as the Arch Mage of Camelot and Head of all Casters.
The envious eyes wanted to tear the two apart. With them together, everything would be easily handled. But when they split apart, everything would turn to chaos.
Jameson paused and took a glass of water, drinking it to relieve the drying of his throat. "Then Merlin and Arthur met a girl who the became the wife of Arthur. Merlin sacrificed eight women to make the girl his with a dark magic but he failed. The rest is all blurred lines from then on. The Sear that used to tell me the stories was fired due to political reasons."
Elliot had a feeling that Jameson wasn't exactly telling the whole truth. He refrained from ambushing him with a question and instead, focused on asking Jameson when he visits the room like he usually does.
He needed Jameson's trust. Elliot knew Jameson's story came from the Book of the Middle, and these king of information were the ones he needed. He needed to find out about the truth of everything.
"That's it?" Connor scrunched his face in disappointment. "I thought there was going to be a huge fight between them or something. Like who did the girl marry?"
"All I know is that the next Pendragon is not Merlin's descendant," Jameson said. "Now I need to sleep."
Elliot looked at Jameson and hoped the prince would give him any signal. When Jameson didn't, Elliot sighed in disappointment and took care of Katarina. He was about to put her in his bed and decided to sleep in his boar fur sleeping bag when Ethan offered his bed.
"I don't need to participate in a game anymore," Ethan said. "She can stay here. I'll go crash at George's room."
After leaving the girl inside Ethan's room, Elliot went to his own and laid in his bed. He needed the early rest in case he was selected as the Champion.
"There was a book." Jameson passed through the wall and looked at Elliot dead in the eyes. "Arthur and Merlin. They fought because of the book."
