Chapter 285: Third World: End
Chapter 285: Third World: End
Everyone, big or small, has something they are afraid of and when that something happens to appear in front of them they can't control their physical reaction towards it. But for a man, it would be especially detrimental if this happens in public. For Wen Qinxi it wasn't in front of someone but his screams somehow permeated into the game room startling Xia Bai and Hei Bao.
They still hadn't figured out how to reopen the communication channel which had been barred by some kind of intrusion that wasn't exactly a virus. They didn't expect the communication channel would suddenly start up on it's own. To top it all off, the first thing they heard was Wen Qinxi groaning in pain.
"Qi-ge.... Qi-ge," called out Hei Bao with a pained expression, "get him out..... let's get him out." This suggestion came about because Wen Qinxi wasn't responding. They thought something terrible must have happened. If the communication channel was working then the log out sequence would probably be working as well.
"Call the doc, I will start up the sequence," said Xia Bai while typing something on his computer.
While the two nerds were running about trying to get their superior out of this predicament, Wen Qinxi was struggling to cope with the pain. A laser beam had vaporized him extracting the precious crystal. The ordeal was already over but the pain was etched deep in his mind that he thought it wasn't over yet.
The system had to call his name multiple times to snap him out of it. Wen Qinxi who had been rolling around in pain finally stopped wailing and opened his eyes in a daze. As he lay down in the darkness, Wen Qinxi wiped his forehead that was laced in sweat. He wanted to speak but he found it difficult as he struggled to breathe. It was then that he heard his co-workers panicking while running around like headless chickens.
He had to put them at ease otherwise they might call an entire hospital over making a big issue out of nothing. Wen Qinxi cleared his dry throat and said in a raspy voice, "Hei Bao," but the nerd kept on panicking so he called out even louder, "Bao Bao! I am fine."
The two nerds, one talking on the phone the other fighting with a computer, halted their actions staring at each other in vexation. Wasn't this the guy who was screaming like he was dying?
It was Xia Bai who broke the silence interrogating Wen Qinxi. "So why were you screaming like a woman in labour then?... Are you sure you are okay?"
Wen Qinxi was still out of it so the system answered on his behalf. "The boss just went through a painful ordeal which is why he was screaming like that," but its answer was the least bit satisfying so Hei Bao patted his chest as though soothing himself and asked,
"What kind of ordeal was that? You have no mercy Qi-ge..... oh, my poor heart."
The system wanted to answer the question but Wen Qinxi's expression had it hesitant. He would most definitely lose face if he told them what the pain was equivalent to on the pain index. Jolie knew Wen Qinxi's thoughts but how could it miss out on interesting gossip so it wrote a message which Xia Bai saw immediately.
System: I will tell you later_ XD it's pretty funny_
It so goes on to say you can teach AI plenty of things but not human emotions. This system wasn't going to save his boss any face. Xia Bai raised a brow and awkwardly cleared his throat before asking, "Do you want to take a break? Since the communication channel is working now I think you can log out for a while."
Wen Qinxi rubbed his forehead in frustration before agreeing to it. Dealing with Qie Ranzhe's matters was extremely exhausting and a break would be nice. "Sure," he said but he wasn't confident it would work.
Xia Bai silently gestured to Hei Bao to come over. The young nerd had somewhat returned to normal but he was still massaging his chest as he obediently walked over. He sat on the swivel chair and started typing. Xia Bai felt the man's discomfort so he reached out his hand and slowly massage Hei Bao's chest with no reservations.
Hei Bao could feel the warmth coming from the man standing behind him which kinda felt nice so he suppressed a smile while typing away. But what happened next came by surprise. He felt a warm hand rubbing his chest causing his entire body to stiffen like an ironing board. It was quite soothing so he asked Xia Bai to put his hands under his t-shirt and rub his chest to avoid wrinkling his clothes.
Xiao Bai who had been given a free pass hurriedly agreed rubbing his hands together to make them warmer before going in there. He thoroughly ate the man's tofu in the name of soothing chest pains. He told himself to sent Wen Qinxi a red packet later for being the perfect wingman. He felt his throat dry when he 'accidentally' caught sight of Hei Bao's smooth pale skin from under the t-shirt. Eating tofu was great but it might have backfired as he felt his body heat up.
If it weren't for the loud notification due to the failure of the logout sequence, Xia Bai would have been stuck in an embarrassing situation by now. Xia Bai took out his hand from under Hei Bao's t-shirt and leaned down with both of his arms enveloping Hei Bao on either side as he typed on the keyboard.
Hei Bao felt a bit embarrassed with their posture but what was there to be shy about? They were both men and best friends at that so this must be normal, right? But he couldn't understand why his face was so hot.
This was what Machu walked in on having ditched his lunch plans after receiving Hei Bao's panicked call. How was this an emergency? Did they call him over to feed him dog food? Sorry, he was a vegetarian.
He was about to walk out when he heard Wen Qinxi asking, "Why is it taking so fuckin long?" This is when the good doctor knew the communication channel was back online.
He strode over, his worry lines vanishing without a trace and asked, "Gecko... are you okay? You had me worried.... How are you feeling?"
Hearing this nickname again, Wen Qinxi's body stiffened vowing to have a talk with the doctor once he logged off. That nickname had to go. "I am fine, I just died in the third world and want to take a break," said Wen Qinxi feeling a bit down.
Machu smiled and said, "Sure, I will take you out for some coffee and you can tell me all about it," before standing up to check on Wen Qinxi's body in the capsule.
"Mn, that would be nice," replied Wen Qinxi imagining himself taking a sip of an ice-cold mocha frappuccino. It had been so long since he had some. The thought of it made him salivate licking his dry lips.
"Mocha frappuccino, right? Or maybe your tastes have changed since high school?" said Machu running a test checking Wen Qinxi's physical condition.
Wen Qinxi, "....."
'How the fuck does he know that?' thought Wen Qinxi but before he could ask that question, the communication channel that was working perfectly fine a minute ago shut down without warning.
Machu, "....."
Two flirting nerds, "....."
Wen Qinxi, "..."
The system, "Hahahaha!!!!"
