Chapter 211: Defeating the Infernals
Chapter 211: Defeating the Infernals
Deep within the forest, [Oblivion] was formed on the ground. There were tress all around them that got destroyed yet Kaguya was still in a good shape. Although she was struggling to maintain the skill where Samael was trapped in.
"I knew it wouldn't be that easy." She thought as beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
Kaguya caught Samael entirely. Aside from the initial impact made by Samael upon hitting the ground, Kaguya immediately casted [Oblivion] below the creature. Deciding to take Samael down before it could even release its full power.
The female elite couldn't cast [Oblivion] while also coating her whole body in the same skill. This is because of the predicament she had with Dark Mana. One which limited her moves, forcing her to cast one spell at a time. Hence, she relied on the split-second interval of Samael crashing down in order to switch [Oblivion] back to an [AoE] skill. Leaving her defenseless.
However, due to how quick the switch was made, Kaguya couldn't concentrate and make a larger hole. Thus she was stuck in a situation where, Samael held on to the edge of the skill, preventing him from entirely getting sucked in.
"Well if we destroy half your body then you'd be left with nothing right?" Kaguya commented as she began closing [Oblivion's] hole.
Yet, this was also hindered by Samael who was able to grip both edges of the skill. The [Conjure] was strong enough to prevent her from doing as she pleased.
Kaguya didn't let this stop her. She put all her might in maintaining this at the very least, putting Samael in a situation where it couldn't cast any skill as both its hands were pre-occupied in stopping the skill from taking it in.
"I hope you guys are doing okay." Kaguya said to herself, thinking of the other members who were busy fighting the [Conjures] which, at that point, finally reached the [Infernal] state.
This time they didn't reach it individually but instead collectively; with all of them entering the state almost at the same time. Of course, this excluded the ones which were already defeated namely, Kezel and six of the twelve [Conjured Knights].
Samael was also not part of this count as Kaguya had him handled. Hence, the elites only needed to face 7 [Infernal Conjures]. One which proved to be a difficult ordeal. However this was needed because, they were hoping to finish this as soon as possible. This is in order for them to aide Kaguya whom they knew would be in a real pickle at that time.
"Oblivion won't cut it, I can just feel it." Amare told herself; being the one to hand out the details of the plan but nevertheless feeling uneasy from the fact that, they haven't even seen the full capabilities of Samael.
Hence they hurried while also assuring that the members were still in good condition. The defenders, in particular, focused on casting instant barriers whenever a blind spot opens up on their teammates. The only reason why they could focus on doing so was because they remained in the main barrier. Two other defenders were on the front lines. Backing up the fights while also taunting each other.
"Gerard that barrier was too weak!" Mordred taunted as she blocked one [Infernal] from attacking Eerie.
"Speak for yourself, all your shields are lousy!" The male defender said in reply, preventing Curio from being hit by a long ranged [Infernal Flame].
"Can we please focus on fighting the [Infernals] now?" Eerie suggested as she fired a barrage of bullets. This prevented the movement of one [Infernal] which Curio quickly stabbed. Backing away as soon as it tried clawing his face, having slight burns reach it which stinged just as much.
"Man these things don't want us alive do they?" The assassin commented, creating multiple clones that distracted the [Infernals] just as much as they were used to generate more damage.
Although already eliminating six of their enemies; the elites still found great difficulty in killing the remainder. For one thing, both Mirio and Jake were on the brink of exhaustion. Their state being greatly affected by the pressure they felt from all the fights.
Hence most of the fighting was done by the remaining members which wasn't to say much. Two were healers, one was an amplifier, Amare was only good as a commander. Counting them out including Kaguya, Mirio, and Jake, there were only twelve of the elites who fought against the [Infernals] and, the defenders wouldn't be able to do much when it came to offense. Save of course for Mordred who took the [Brawler] Secondary Job Class.
"Just keep them busy for a while." Jake asked as both he and Mirio were being treated by the healers. Amare continued issuing orders, ensuring that there was no lull in their movement and that every action was not wasted.
The main attack team consisted of Gerard and Mordred at the front. At their back was Eerie and, swiftly moving to the blind spots of the enemies was Curio. The mages assisted fire while inside the barrier while Gawain also did his best to snipe down the enemies.
"How much longer do you need Horus?" Amare asked as their summoner was busy gathering all the mana which was collected from the [Conjures].
"Just a bit more." He said in reply, finishing up the magic circle containing the summon which would be used for the fight.
The elites made progress little by little and Zeke was amazed at how little the damage they sustained was. In fact, there was almost no damage done to the elites due to all the spells that were perfectly matched to the situations. The barriers in particular aided in the defenses as it created a secure area for the support team while also allowing the offensive team to focus on taking down the [Infernals].
The same didn't apply to heir mana however. With Zeke seeing how rapidly some of them needed to consume their mana in order to keep the tides of the battle in their favor.
Hence thirty minutes passed by and they were able to take down four more [Infernals]. This came at the price of the second offense team to be exhausted. Amare asked them to retreat back to the barrier as it was Jake and Curio's turn once again. Or rather that was how it was supposed to turn out.
"It's ready." Horus announced, getting Amare's face draw a smile from the thought of undeniable victory.
"Proceed to formation Epsilon!" At this command Horus immediately summoned the creature he was preparing. Using his own [Mana Pool], the same summon couldn't be raised. He needed more mana and, in particular, it needed to be the mana of whatever summons they were up against.
"Now would you look at that." Zeke commented, seeing the tall figure looking similar to the [Conjured Knights].
There was something strangely odd with it however. Something which Allesiah noticed right away as she stood together with the other spectators. Heron. Sylph. Morpheus.
"That thing." She began, getting the attention of her sister who stood beside her.
"What of it?"
"It's not normal. The mana around it suggests that it can cancel out summons with similar mana waves to it."
"You mean Zeke's [Conjures] are going to lose?"
"Yes. I don't know how his was pulled off but, I'm sure there are difficult conditions that need to be met in order to make use of the skill."
Zeke didn't know of this so he was surprise to see his remaining [Infernals] get beaten down easily. It wasn't even a fair fight anymore. The knight wasn't getting damaged no matter what move the [Infernals] threw at it. This defensive capability was just as crazy as its offensive prowess.
The knight-like summon required only a single stab to kill its targets. The [Infernals] would simply get absorbed by the creature as it thrusted its sword on the bodies of these blazing enemies.
"Man, that skill would be bothersome in a real fight." Zeke said as his [Analysis] finally showed both the conditions for summoning the creature and maintaining it.
[Name: None]
[Species: Summon Reaver]
[Specification: Infernal Conjure Reaver]
[Rank: SS]
[Information: The creature can only be summoned upon the successful siphoning of some mana coming from a targeted "Summoned Creature." Upon the successful extraction, a magic circle must be drawn, one which must be accurate. All the remaining mana of the summoner and the extracted mana will then be used to summon the creature.]
[Information: The summon can be maintained as long as a designated type of enemy summon is still present nearby. This is the life source of the creature, extending the duration of its summon by reaving its enemies.]
With this, the elites have finally destroyed their enemies save for one. The remaining [Conjure] and the strongest of them all. Samael.
Time couldn't be wasted. They were all nervous as they thought of the state of Kaguya. Thinking back on how Samael only needed a single effortless move to take down Jake. This was a thing of the past of course and they were a lot stronger already. But the fact still remains that, the same creature never took them seriously on that fight.
"Curio." Amare called out, with the assassin knowing what he needed to do.
"On it!" He said, extending his own shadow on the ground, covering the earth were the elites were standing.
Zeke could see how taxing the skill was. With the casting beginning to drain Curio's mana like crazy as it was also a high-cost spell. Nevertheless, it was their only choice if they wanted to catch up to Kaguya immediately.
"Shadow Travel!"
