Chapter 178 Respect (3)
Instead of letting the monsters surround him like usual, Jake immediately used the new shurikens when he found those piles of snow below the trees around. Although he knew that something was off when he saw five of those… he still threw five shurikens toward them. As expected, only three piles of snow reacted… Nevertheless, Jake tried to hit the heads of all of them, but only one got killed instantly. The others had shurikens on their shoulders that they pulled and threw away before charging toward Jake. They were causing him trouble, but it would have been worse if they had noticed what those shurikens were made of.
"That is a terrible idea…" Jake said while he equipped his sword.
Naturally, the monsters wouldn't have the experience of the other creatures that Jake had defeated, so they wouldn't know that facing him while wounded and without the usual group would be pretty insane. Nevertheless, they did it, and Jake got rid of them as quickly as he could.
"Against smaller numbers, I don't need to rely on those, but I guess until I find the dungeon, I should save time," Jake thought while he was recovering the shurikens. "Also, enchanting them with Fire Enchantment should do a lot of damage…"
Jake still had many things that he wanted to check, but the sky was getting darker, and so was the environment. Night was coming, and Jake could feel that it was getting colder as well.
"Maybe I should keep going until I find the dungeon," Jake thought. "While I still have nine days to complete the quest, I am just barely hunting them faster than they can spawn."
Jake was already getting the hang of fighting the Frozen Grizzlies. He just needed to increase his strength a bit more before he could fight them without giving them the chance to wound him in a direct flight.
Although Jake had planned that, he didn't imagine that things would get so dire so fast. First of all, the wind began to get faster, and the temperature dropped absurdly. Then a snowstorm reached the area, making things even colder. As if that wasn't enough, the darkness of the night barely let him twenty meters ahead. The sky was cloudy, so there weren't many sources of light around.
Jake kept moving forward after putting some layers of the Grizzlies' fur around his body. Still, while that helped, it also decreased his mobility. While Jake was trying to get used to moving with those, all of a sudden, the snow nearby him suddenly exploded, and then a Frozen Grizzly appeared.
"How the fuck I didn't see that?" Jake asked already with his sword in his hands.
Jake's caution helped him since he was always holding his sword, but he didn't expect that the visibility would be so bad that he would pass by a pile of snow without seeing it… In any case, other piles of snow exploded nearby. Still, they did make the mistake of being pretty far away from each other because Jake tossed aside his cloak and fur to attack the beast nearby him.
As usual, the beast tried to attack Jake with both claws, but Jake repelled one with his sword and dodged the other, and while the beast had lost its footing thanks to his attack, he approached and stabbed the monster in the neck.
The other two beasts got close and attacked Jake with their claws, but he stopped both of them with his sword. Jake wished that they had sent him flying, but in the end, he landed on the snow soon enough and slippered for dozens of meters. Before he could stop, the monsters charged at him, but Jake threw two shurikens at their faces when they got too close.
Jake missed their eyes, but the projectiles still caused a lot of pain and made blood fall on their field of vision. He used that opportunity to approach and then kill one of them before they could realize what he was doing. The remaining monster grabbed and threw the shuriken at Jake, but it hurt its hands more than anything.
After approaching the last monster, Jake used Explosive Touch when his sword collided against the enemy's claw, making the beast staggered. Thanks to that, he had another full second to approach and behead the beast.
Congratulations! The skill Cold Resistance has leveled up.
You obtained 01 status points.
The moment Jake relaxed, he realized that his balls were freezing, so he quickly grabbed his cloak and fur to protect himself.
"The skill is leveling a lot, but I don't feel much difference with each level up," Jake thought.
Once again, his low mentality and willpower had come to bite Jake in the ass. There was no other explanation aside from the fact that his Cold Resistance decreased the effects and damage of cold by one point per level. Speaking of which, Jake lost eight points of health when he felt his balls freezing… So he would need to make the skill level up that much.
Jake would stay in that world for a long time, so he didn't have to hurry up and make that skill progress that fast. That being said, he needed to change his modus operandi a bit in order to prevent those surprises… So, Jake put away his sword and grabbed some shurikens.
After moving in the same direction for a short while, Jake saw some frozen grizzlies suddenly appearing again from the piles of snow. This time, he used Explosive Touch when he threw the first shuriken toward the nearest enemy. Due to the distance between them, the beast had no time to react.
When the other two got close enough, he also used the same combination on the face of the monsters, and they didn't have time to react since their faces had just exploded. The only demerit of that strategy was that Jake wasn't improving his Swordsmanship, but he could do that during the day.
