Chapter 78: Chapter 78: Darkseid War II



[3rd POV]

At the question, the group looked at eachother. Each of them were...not looking the best. Noticeably cut in various parts, with seemingly unhealed injuries still prevalent on their bodies.

"...Darkseid happened. That's what they call him, at least" Conner replied, causing Gwen to breathe out a sigh.

"They invaded a week ago, targeting the different League locations. They had even cut off the major satellites, cutting off major communications around the world. Only the League and parts of the United States have the ability to communicate at the moment" Zatanna added, causing Artemis to speak up.

"My mom, is my mom-" "She's okay. The League evacuated all family of the League the second they could. She's kept in a secure location with the rest of the League" Dick said, cutting Artemis off, causing her to breathe out in relief.

"And how many are there? Invaders" Gwen asked, knowing this would be important, as her eyes hardened. Now wasn't the time to joke, now was the time to get serious, and now as the time to finally start using her intelligence and knowledge.

"100,000 at least, and is constantly increasing by the minute" Kaldur replied, causing Gwen to nod.

"Good, still manageable numbers" Gwen muttered, as she began to think of ways to deal with the tide, and return communications to the world.

"Manageable numbers?! We've been fighting for an entire week and haven't even taken out a thousand of them! Not to mention Darkseids elite!" Conner replied, causing Gwen to glance at him.

"It's manageable for me, Conner. Did you really think I didn't have plans in place for something like this? Not to mention I've already got like 10 different ideas for returning communications, all of which I can complete within the next couple of hours. Making a new and much stronger satellite should be more than enough to fix that little issue" Gwen replied, ignoring his rude tone, understanding where he was coming from.

"You had plans for this? Why didn't you tell the League?!" Rocket asked, causing Gwen to stare at her, deadpanning.

"You think they'd trust me? Sure, pops would and probably a couple of others. But Superman? Captain Atom? Hell no, those two would say no the second they heard what the plans entail, and who is helping me execute them" Gwen responded.

"It's Luthor isn't it?" Dick asked, causing her to look at him and smirk.

"Yep. I gave the guy a very special blueprint and some materials to build some...insurances against this sort of thing. Not to mention several other ideas I have to strengthen the

resistance to this invasion" Gwen replied, causing them to sigh.

"Yeah...Supes wouldn't be happy with that, so I guess I can't blame you for that. But how come you couldn't tell us? You know we wouldn't tell them, just like we haven't told them about your other...tendancies" Conner said, causing Gwen to sigh.

"That's my fault, but in my defense...some of these plans are not really something I'd like sharing due to the actions they involve, and the people I'd need to get involved" Gwen replied, causing them to raise an eyebrow and squint at her.

"What sort of people?"

"That...is a secret. Now, let's get to the cave. Do the Zeta-tubes still work?" Gwen asked, as they walked.

"Yes, but we have to be careful when using them, as if Darkseid knew, it'd make getting around a lot harder" Dick replied, causing Gwen to hum and nod.

"Alright good, I'll have to get to Lex and see how the...plan I had went. But first, I'm going to need some space to make a satellite strong enough to take the brunt of the communications for the world, while also being cloaked from Darkseid and his forces...should be easy peasy" Gwen said, as she mentally began to go over the materials needed, and how long it would take to produce.

"Before you ask, I've got the ability to produce materials I know the atomic makeup of. And I know the atomic makeup of literally every material on earth, besides the more...magical ones. So, creating a satellite should be easy. I'll just need some of your help putting it together" Gwen said, causing them to all look at one another.

"And how long will it take to make this satellite? Having global communication again could change this resistance" Dick asked.

"Hmm...2 hours? Maybe a little longer with the plans I have in mind. As making it just restore communication seems so...boring" Gwen replied, as she had some ideas on laser satellites and orbital weapons that could be used to get rid of some of the more annoying elites. "And what about Lex? How does he play into this?" Artemis asked, wanting to know what her girlfriend was planning.

"He should have made some rather...important "weapons" that'd be able to fight off alien invasions. Weapons that even Superman would struggle to fight, much less defeat" Gwen replied with a shrug, as she walked into the main area of the mountain.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

"And you really think these weapons will help against Darkseid?" Raven asked, hoping that Gwen was right in the idea, but also nervous that it wouldn't work.

"Against Darkseid himself? Hell no. Against his elites and his grunts? Definitely" Gwen replied, knowing the weapons she had created would do jack shit against the man, if she had more time she could certainly create something, but that'd take a lot longer, a lot more materials (Several of which she wouldn't be able to create herself) and would cause a LOT of damage to the surroundings.

"For now, let's focus on that satellite okay? Once it's complete I can teleport it into space, and with the way I'm creating it, it'll deal with the rest" Gwen said, causing the team to nod, as they began to get to work.

[3 hours later]

"...I thought you said it was a satellite?" Dick said, looking at the work in front of them.

"It is"

"Then why is there what looks to be a cannon on it?" Artemis asked, causing Gwen to grin.

"It's an orbital cannon, one that'll deal some serious damage to anyone it's aimed at, courtesy of mwah. It's also next to impossible to detect, is more than 1000 times more efficient than any of earths previous communication satellites, and doesn't negatively effect the atmosphere. AND it can be upgraded further should I wish" Gwen said, pleased with her

work.

It could be a lot better, but this was enough for the situation. Once the invasion is dealt with, she planned on creating some serious defences for this Earth, including a series of orbital cannons, shields, and all sorts of ideas she was going to make during that time. She planned on going full scientist.

"Alright...let's hope this works" Gwen whispered, as the satellite glowed, and disappeared.

Within the atmosphere over Earth, a large satellite bigger than others formed, and immediately began to glow as it began to get to work. As all over the world, communication systems began to reactivate, as the satellite was effectively working with every single device on the planet, replacing all communication satellites on the planet, single handedly.

"It worked!" Dick cried out, as he began to hear chatter over the radio's they set up.

The team looked at Gwen in genuine awe "You did it..." Rocket said, now realizing just how powerful and intelligent Gwen actually was.

Smiling at the praise, Gwen looked to the team and spoke.

"This is only the beginning. I've got...a lot more to bring out...and all to stop this invasion, and to stop...Darkseid"

Next chapter will have a bit more happening, as she'll be meeting with Luthor.

She'll start using that mind of hers a LOT in coming chapters, with the satellite only being the

start of it all.

Next chapter should hopefully be longer, as this one was basically more setup and preparing

for the beginning of Gwen's battles with Darkseids forces.
